After a year without a game: Tevez announces career end

After a year without a club, former Argentina star striker Carlos Tevez has made his career end official.

Carlos Tevez will not be returning to professional football – the former Manchester City and Manchester United striker announced in a press conference in his native Argentina. After leaving Boca Juniors over a year ago, the 38-year-old said he had several offers from the USA, but turned them all down. “That was it, I gave it my all,” the striker said.

The reason for his departure, however, was not age but the death of his stepfather, who died in February 2021 from complications following a COVID-19 illness, he said. “Now I’m quitting, I’ve lost my biggest fan.”

Tevez began his career with Boca Juniors before moving to Brazil to join Corinthians. At the latest after his move to England, first to West Ham, then to Manchester United and Manchester City, the Argentine was considered an absolute world-class striker. His last station in Europe was Juventus Turin, with whom he was twice champion. He also won the Premier League three times and the Champions League once.
