ADAC GT Masters Test Oschersleben 2022: Audi record and AMG fire

Dennis Marschall sets an unofficial track record during testing at Oschersleben – ZVO Mercedes on fire, Schubert-BMW loses wheel

The second day of ADAC GT Masters testing at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben saw much more meaningful conditions than Tuesday at the same venue. Four and a half hours of testing in dry conditions were available to the competitors

And they knew how to make the most of it, with Audi works driver Dennis Marschall leading the way. The 25-year-old set a new unofficial track record of 1:22.893 minutes in the Rutronik Audi 91 (Engelhart/Güven) held the best time of the day for a long time in 1:23.025 minutes, before Marschall struck ten minutes before the end. The new Pirelli tyre seems to keep its promise and deliver excellent performance.

Porsche took the other two fastest times in the total of three sessions, both set by Sven Müller in the 22 Allied Porsche (S. Müller/Sturm). Müller was extremely consistent and set times in the region of 1:23.0 minutes in all three sessions. In the end, 1:23.062 in session 1 was enough for third place in the day’s standings. Jan Kasperlik’s team attracted a lot of attention with this result.

Dries Vanthoor set the fourth fastest time of the day in the 10 (Krütten/Green) finished 18th overall. However, there is every indication that Schubert will be able to contest the season opener with both vehicles.

Interruptions in all sessions

The ZVO Mercedes 4 (Gounon/Schiller) caused a scare in the first session of the day when it caught fire in the pit lane. The flames were quickly extinguished.

Jules Gounon had damaged his oil tank when driving over the baguette curbs in the McDonald’s chicane. The leaking oil ignited on the exhaust. The baguette curbs were then removed.

The Schubert-BMW 10 (Krütten/Green) caused further interruptions in the second session. The M4 GT3 lost a wheel in the penultimate corner for reasons that are still unclear. In the third session, the car drove again without any problems. Schubert is sure to have fixed the wheel correctly.

There was also an interruption in the last session of the day – Joel Sturm landed in the gravel bed in the Allied Porsche. Only a flap was lost. Otherwise, the day went by without any dramas.

This officially concludes the preparations for the season. However, numerous teams will take advantage of further, private testing opportunities before the season opener of the 2022 ADAC GT Masters is on the agenda from 22 to 24 April.
