A First for German Tennis Talent

Julia Stusek wins her first WTA match and advances to the round of 16 in Hamburg.

Tennis prospect Julia Stusek has won her first match on the WTA Tour. The 18-year-old defeated Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the tournament in Hamburg and advanced to the round of 16. There, Stusek will face local favorite Tamara Korpatsch or Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva from Andorra.

Stusek last made it into the main draw of a WTA tournament in Mallorca last October; she made her debut at the age of 15 in Bad Homburg in 2024. On both occasions, Stusek lost her opening match.

No top players are competing in Hamburg. The top seed is Oleksandra Olijnykova of Ukraine, ranked 45th in the world. Stusek is one of eight German players.
