MotoGP fans ask Jack Miller for gloves and he delivers after the Misano race – but the race commissioners are less than enthusiastic.
Jack Miller finished the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano in twelfth place. After the race, there were some curious scenes on the cool-down lap. The Australian briefly drove against the direction of traffic.
Why did Miller do that? “This morning, I saw a fan on the back straight holding up a sign that said something like, ‘Give us your gloves and we’ll give you a beer,’ or some nonsense like that,” Miller explains.
“I pulled over to the side, but I went a little too far. So I kept going and turned around. When I saw that no one was coming, I turned around on the track and drove back about 30 meters. Then I gave the fans my gloves.“
”So I was happy to fulfill their wish and give them the gloves. It was a very nice moment,” Miller said. The race commissioners found the action less amusing and imposed a fine of €2,000 for driving against the direction of traffic. And did the Australian at least get the promised beer from the fans? “No, I didn’t get the beer—and I got a €2,000 fine instead. Great day.“ Miller cannot understand why he was penalized for this action at all. ”If Dorna decides this week to use the video to promote it on social media and so on, I will definitely say that this €2,000 fine is ridiculous,” said the Pramac Yamaha rider angrily.
In Misano, a rider was already penalized on Saturday for an action during the cool-down lap. Local hero Matteo Ferrari won the second MotoE race on Saturday afternoon. During the cool-down lap, the Italian celebrated his victory with a burnout. This violated a specific instruction for the electric racing series. On May 8, a briefing was held in Le Mans with all MotoE class riders and teams. Ferrari received a €1,000 fine for the burnout.
