Problem Area Addressed with Millions: Milan Signs Goncalo Ramos from Paris

After dramatically missing out on the Champions League, a lot is changing at AC Milan—including the team itself. Goncalo Ramos is expected to provide plenty of goals from now on.

“In Portugal, Milan trusts”: That’s roughly how the past few years at the historic Lombard club can be summed up.

Following the failed coaching tenures of Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao, as well as years of relying on forward Rafael Leao, the club’s leadership—led by boss Gerry Cardinale and club advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic—recently opted for another Portuguese coach following the dismissal of returning manager Massimiliano Allegri. From now on, former Man United coach Ruben Amorim is set to take the reins of the Rossoneri and lead them back to the Champions League at the very least.

This will require plenty of goals—though the attack was a major problem area under Allegri (only 53 goals in 2025–26). Amorim’s compatriot Gonçalo Ramos, whom Milan has—as recently speculated—poached from Paris Saint-Germain, is now expected to address this issue.

Quite a bit more expensive than the previous record transfer

The former Benfica striker, who never progressed beyond the role of a top-tier substitute at the Champions League champions of the past two seasons (81 Ligue 1 appearances, 27 goals) and started only 15 of his 45 competitive appearances last season alone (none in the Champions League), will take on the role of main striker for the Rossoneri in the future.

To secure him, the 19-time Italian champions (most recently in 2022 under Stefano Pioli) are digging deep into their pockets: According to media reports, the deal is said to be worth over 70 million euros—an absolute club record following the 2019 transfer of Rafael Leao from OSC Lille (nearly 50 million euros). And all this for a player who mostly came off the bench during his years in Paris.

Goncalo Ramos is said to have already completed his medical exam some time ago in Florida during the Portuguese national team’s training camp ahead of the World Cup—he has now signed a contract with the Milan club that runs through June 30, 2031.

No Future Left for Gimenez

Conversely, the arrival of striker Goncalo Ramos is likely to bring an end to Santiago Gimenez’s unfortunate spell at AC Milan. The Mexican international arrived in 2025 from Feyenoord Rotterdam as a promising prospect—but managed a meager five goals in 30 Serie A appearances. In the 2025–26 season, he failed to score a single goal in 16 games. The forward is already being heavily linked with a move to Orlando City in the MLS.
