Another Trade for Schröder? Cavs Seek Financial Flexibility

Following their elimination in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers are facing a pivotal offseason. According to a report, Dennis Schröder could once again become a trade candidate.

According to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, the Cavaliers want to reduce their salary cap and are apparently exploring various options within the roster. Among those at the center of their considerations is Dennis Schröder, who only joined Cleveland last season.

“The latest I’ve heard about the Cavaliers is that they’re trying to save some salary,” Windhorst said on ESPN Cleveland. “I think they’re primarily looking into whether they can trade Dennis Schröder. They want to create some flexibility under the second-tier salary cap.”

After his move from the Sacramento Kings, the German national team player took on a role as a point guard coming off the bench. In his appearances for Cleveland, Schröder averaged 8.2 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game.

However, Schröder’s three-year, $45 million contract—which he signed just last summer in Sacramento—is still in effect. Since the Cavaliers want to further strengthen their roster with Donovan Mitchell while also creating financial flexibility, Schröder could once again become the subject of trade talks despite his brief stint in Cleveland.
