Musiala on the question of patience: “You can see that something is missing at times”

The big dream of winning the Champions League remained unfulfilled, but the double is still within reach for FC Bayern and Jamal Musiala—and the 23-year-old has now spoken about the significance of winning the cup.

Just over a week ago, FC Bayern Munich’s Champions League dream came to an end in a 1-1 draw against PSG. But now the newly crowned German champions are looking ahead. “We shouldn’t dwell on that,” says Jamal Musiala in an interview with Sky, adding that the team will learn from the setback. But that doesn’t change the fact that FC Bayern “has had a really great season. Sometimes there’s just a little something missing to win it all.”

On the field, however, the Munich side still has goals. On Saturday (3:30 p.m.), for example, the season finale against 1. FC Köln is on the schedule, before attention turns fully to the cup final against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, May 23. “We haven’t won the DFB Cup in a long time,” Musiala notes, emphasizing that a victory against VfB would also be a clear “sign of the great season we’ve had.” That would also have a positive impact on the upcoming season.

The last time FC Bayern reached the cup final was six years ago (a 4-2 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen); Musiala was just starting out as a pro back then and didn’t make his breakthrough at Säbener Straße until the following year. Consequently, this will be his first final in Berlin. “I’ve heard a lot about how cool it is to play in Berlin, in the final,” says the 23-year-old. “I’ve heard a lot from Kimmich, Goretzka, and Neuer. The atmosphere and everything is really cool, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Musiala and the question of patience

On the field, Musiala is on his way back to his old form after his long injury. The national team player realizes that this can sometimes be a rocky road and admits that he is impatient. He wants to “actually be back at the level I was at before my injury right away, or as soon as possible.” “It just takes patience, even if I’m playing in every game. You can tell that something’s missing sometimes,” but on the other hand, there are already games where you don’t see that anymore.

For Musiala, it’s clear anyway that “in the end, you just have to stick with it, and patience is definitely the most important thing.” He feels strong support from coach Vincent Kompany, who is “a great coach and a great person” and who is very understanding, partly because of his own experiences as a player. “It’s also a good feeling that I can talk to him very openly. That understanding really helps.”
