18-year-old clearly knocks Zverev out of the tournament

Alexander Zverev entered the tournament in Munich as the top favourite. He received a walk-through at the start. But the Olympic champion was in for a nasty surprise in the second round.

Alexander Zverev has suffered the next setback on the way to his big goal of number 1. The 25-year-old Olympic champion lost surprisingly clearly to the Danish teenager Holger Rune (18) 3:6 2:6 at the tournament in Munich on Wednesday. In the first round, the Hamburg player had had a walk-through as the top seed.

Zverev had hoped for a turnaround in his so far titleless season in Munich. But against the world number 70, he made too many simple mistakes right from the start. In particular, the Dane’s short stop shots caused Zverev great problems time and again. After a little more than 90 minutes, Rune made use of his second match point on the almost full Centre Court.

Earlier, Daniel Altmaier from Kempen had already lost his round of 16 match. The 23-year-old lost to the seventh seed Miomir Kecmanovic from Serbia 2:6, 4:6. Oscar Otte is the last German in the field of the traditional tournament in Munich.
