13 Corona cases at league leaders: Zwickau vs Magdeburg cancelled

As 1. FC Magdeburg announced on Wednesday, extensive PCR testing on Tuesday revealed 13 positive Corona findings at the Elbstädtern. The DFB subsequently cancelled the league leader’s away match at FSV Zwickau.

Forced break for the FCM: After several players had complained of cold symptoms in the past few days, a PCR test of the squad as well as the coaching and support staff revealed a total of 13 positive findings on Tuesday. After consultation with the responsible health authority, a quarantine was ordered for all affected players and their direct contacts.

Affected players vaccinated or recovering

“We have had a high number of flu patients in the past few days. There is always a bad feeling about such illnesses in the current time of the Corona pandemic. Unfortunately, this has been confirmed after extensive PCR testing,” said sporting director Otmar Schork, commenting on the events at the leaders of the 3rd division. All players had been vaccinated or had recovered, which is why the team is now planning to have a booster vaccination as soon as possible. For the next few days, the Magdeburg team has scheduled further extensive PCR tests for the players and the coaching team.

One day after the positive PCR tests, the DFB granted Magdeburg’s request to cancel the upcoming third division match at FSV Zwickau on Wednesday. “Magdeburg currently have fewer than 16 eligible players at their disposal, which means that the minimum limit stipulated in the paragraph has not been reached,” was the reason given with reference to paragraph 15 of the implementing regulations for the DFB match regulations. A make-up date has not yet been set.
