Zalgiris Kaunas has lodged an official protest over the EuroLeague game at Virtus Bologna. The reason for this is several incidents involving court cleaning staff during ongoing action in the game.
There were unusual scenes in the fourth quarter of Zalgiris Kaunas’ EuroLeague away game at Virtus Bologna. Head coach Tomas Masiulis lodged an official protest during the game and went to the scorer’s table to do so. At that point, Virtus was leading narrowly 79-74 with just over a minute left to play.
The protest related to court maintenance. There were several interruptions because staff were cleaning the floor even though the game had already resumed.
Cleaning staff during ongoing action
There were at least two critical situations in the final quarter. With about three minutes remaining, cleaning staff were still on the court when Moses Wright went up for a dunk. Another incident occurred about a minute and a half before the end, when Zalgiris attempted to launch a fast break.
Virtus Bologna ultimately won the game 83-79. It was the Italians’ first victory against Zalgiris since their return to the EuroLeague in 2022. Previously, the team from Kaunas had won seven consecutive head-to-head matches.
