Last competition, last gold medal: Two-time judo world champion Anna-Maria Wagner has retired from sport with a title. The most successful German judoka of recent years won the Military World Championships in Warendorf on Thursday and was then celebrated extensively.
The 29-year-old Wagner prevailed in the final against Poland’s Beata Pacut-Kloczko and shone once again as usual. Wagner was world champion in the 78 kg class in 2021 and 2024.
She did not compete to defend her title in Budapest in mid-June, with 22-year-old Anna Monta Olek from Hanover winning silver and already establishing herself as her successor.
