Two new signings in one fell swoop: Semedo and Skriniar presented at Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe Istanbul has announced two new signings for the coming season in quick succession. Shortly after signing Nelson Semedo, the club announced the transfer of Milan Skriniar, who is no stranger to the Bosporus.

35 appearances in the Champions League, plus 82 in the Spanish La Liga and 165 in the English Premier League: Nelson Semedo’s record is more than impressive. The 44-time Portuguese international also recently celebrated a title, coming on as a half-time substitute in the Nations League final, where his country beat Spain 5-3 on penalties.

In club football, the experienced right-back most recently played for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League, but he recently left the club. His new club was quickly decided: the 31-year-old will play for Fenerbahçe Istanbul next season, as the club coached by José Mourinho announced late on Thursday evening.

Four-year contract for Skriniar

But Semedo, who signed a two-year contract, was not the last new signing for the Turkish runners-up on Thursday. Just a few minutes later, Fenerbahçe announced the transfer of center back Milan Skriniar from Paris St. Germain. The defender is no stranger to the Bosphorus, having already been on loan from the French club in the second half of last season. Skriniar scored three goals in 16 league appearances, impressing those in charge around coach Mourinho, which is why he has now been signed on a permanent basis. His contract runs until the end of June 2029.

Skriniar is only a year younger than Semedo and has similar experience. Before spending a year and a half at PSG (29 games in Ligue 1), the 81-time Slovakian international was under contract with Inter Milan from 2017 to 2023. Skriniar made 231 appearances in Serie A for the Italian top club. He also has a total of 37 appearances in the Champions League.

His new club will soon be playing their first competitive game of the new season in this competition: on Tuesday, August 5, Fenerbahce will travel to Feyenoord Rotterdam for the first leg of the third qualifying round, before the first league game against Alanyaspor at home on the following Saturday.
