Tennis star takes time out

Ons Jabeur is taking a break from sport. After a series of setbacks, the three-time Grand Slam finalist wants to “put herself first.”

Ons Jabeur, the former world number two tennis player, is taking a break from the sport. The Tunisian announced on Thursday that she wants to “take a step back and finally put myself first.” The three-time Grand Slam finalist has had two difficult years on the WTA Tour.

“Over the past two years, I’ve worked so hard, battled injuries and faced many other challenges. But deep down, I haven’t really felt happy on the court for some time now,” the 30-year-old said on social media. She wants to use the time “to breathe, heal and rediscover the joy of life.”

Jabeur had withdrawn early from Wimbledon

Jabeur, currently ranked 71st in the world, recently withdrew from the first round of Wimbledon, having previously failed to get past the opening round at the French Open in Paris.

She reached the peak of her career so far when she reached the final at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023 and at the US Open in 2022.
