After defeating Eva Lys, the Polish player lost to Denmark’s Clara Tauson. The top four seeds have now all been eliminated.
Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek has suffered a surprise defeat in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal after beating Eva Lys from Hamburg. The world number three from Poland lost to Clara Tauson from Denmark 6-7 (1-7), 3-6.
Before second seed Swiatek, top seed and French Open winner Coco Gauff (USA), third seed and defending champion Jessica Pagula (USA) and fourth seed Mirra Andrejewa (Russia) had already been eliminated from the Canadian Open.
Tauson will now face Australian Open winner Madison Keys (USA), who had to save two match points to defeat Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
