Surprising twist: Gibbs-White commits to Forest

Morgan Gibbs-White was considered a departure candidate at Nottingham Forest after a strong 2024/25 season, with Spurs recently showing strong interest. Now there has been a surprising twist for the England international.

A move from Forest striker Morgan Gibbs-White to Spurs was considered a formality. The North London club were prepared to pay the reported £60 million (€69 million) release clause in the Englishman’s contract for the player wanted by new coach Thomas Frank; and a medical was even scheduled for the 25-year-old – but now it’s all off.

The deal had already been in jeopardy after the Conference League participant considered taking legal action against its league rival. From Forest’s point of view, Spurs had approached Gibbs-White without permission to negotiate a transfer. There were also concerns about how the North London club had obtained confidential details of his contract at City Ground.

However, all that is now a thing of the past since Saturday night: as the two-time European Cup winner announced, the four-time England international has committed his future to Forest. Gibbs White has signed a new contract with the Tricky Trees until 2028.

“There was a lot of interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the center. I promised our fans that we would not only be competitive, but that we would get stronger and stronger every season. Today is another big step on that journey,” said club owner Evangelos Marinakis in the club’s announcement of the contract extension.

Gibbs-White emerged as a key player, particularly in the extremely successful Premier League season just ended, in which Forest fought for a Champions League spot until the final matchday. The versatile attacking player scored seven goals and set up ten more for Nuno Espirito Santos’ team. In a total of 118 appearances for the Tricky Trees, the 25-year-old has been involved in 46 goals (18 goals, 28 assists).

“I felt at home at Forest from the very first moment. The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone else at the club has been incredible,” Gibbs-White said. “I believe in what we are building here, and with the support of Mr. Marinakis and the tremendous ambition he has, I want to be part of creating something special.”
