Manchester United is back on track after a draw at West Ham and the end of its winning streak. The Red Devils narrowly defeated Everton 1-0 thanks to another goal from substitute Sesko.
Manchester United had initially recorded four wins in a row after Michael Carrick took over, but recently had to settle for a 1-1 draw against West Ham United. In comparison, Carrick made a change, with Yoro starting in place of Lisandro Martinez. This meant that substitute goalscorer Sesko had to settle for a place on the bench once again.
The visitors had the first chance of the game through Amad, but Pickford and Tarkowski cleared the ball (4′). Otherwise, the first half was fairly uneventful overall. Diogo Dalot (9′) and Bruno Fernandes (20′) often got the ball into the danger zone, but there were no shots on goal to begin with.
Things got a little closer when Diogo Dalot fired a half-volley from distance just wide of the goal (31′). Mbeumo (36′) and Bruno Fernandes (45’+1) also tried their luck from distance, but Pickford was not called into action on either occasion. Shortly before that, Everton had the only noteworthy chance of the first half, but Garner’s free kick was simply too far away (39′).
Substitute Sesko strikes
The first chance after the break belonged to the Toffees, but Armstrong shot too centrally into the arms of Lammens (46′). Shortly afterwards, Mbeumo had a good opportunity for the visitors (51′). Apart from that, however, the second half was also fairly uneventful. Dewsbury-Hall’s attempt was deflected (64′), before Matheus Cunha lost his balance (66′).
Meanwhile, Sesko had come on for ManUnited – and this move would once again pay off. After a fine long ball from Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo spotted the former Leipzig player, who kept his cool in front of Pickford and finished the counterattack to make it 1-0 (71′). After that, ManUnited sat back and let Everton have the ball. Keane had the best chance for the Toffees with a long-range shot (82′). Otherwise, it was mostly set pieces that gave the hosts hope. ManUnited defended quite confidently overall and could even have increased their lead through Sesko (90+3).
The Red Devils are back on track for success, which will continue next Sunday (3 p.m.) against Crystal Palace. Everton will be away at Newcastle United the day before (4 p.m.).
