After his loan spell at Galatasaray was cut short, Alvaro Morata is returning to Serie A. It has now been officially confirmed that the Spaniard will not be playing for Milan next season, but for Como 1907.
The loan between AC Milan and Galatasaray Istanbul for striker Alvaro Morata was originally scheduled to run until 2026. The 32-year-old European champion made a convincing impression in his first six months at Cimbom after his transfer in February 2025. With seven goals and three assists in 16 games, the Spaniard helped Galatasaray win its first double since the 2018/19 season.
Too much competition in Gala’s attack
However, the competition has grown since then. With Leroy Sané, another top-class player has been signed, and direct competitor in the center of the attack, Victor Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, has now been signed permanently and will remain at Galatasaray.
Morata is therefore returning to Serie A, but not to Milan, instead joining Como 1907. The team that finished 10th last season announced on Tuesday that the Spaniard will initially be on loan, with Como having an option to buy at the end of the loan spell.
“I’m really happy to have arrived in Como. When I played against them last year, I got to appreciate the team and the project. You can see that there is a lot of ambition. I promise the fans and the club that I will give 200 percent in every training session and every game. I can’t wait to wear this jersey,” said Morata.
Morata had fallen out with coach Conceicao
Before the transfer, Como had to reach an agreement with AC officials. At the Rossoneri, where Morata had only played for half a season, there was a rift between the club and the player after he fell out with then-coach Sergio Conceicao.
His departure from Galatasaray was also anything but smooth. The Turkish club did not want to terminate the loan so easily and demanded a termination fee of five million euros. Morata had to give up part of his salary for the transfer and accused Galatasaray of breaking its word.
Time together with Spain and Chelsea
Morata and Cesc Fabregas are reunited on Lake Como. The Como 1907 coach and the striker played together for the Spanish national team from 2017 to 2019 and for Chelsea FC, where they both played from 2014 to 2016.
“I’ve known Alvaro for many years and have always admired his style of play and his attitude. He’s an intelligent striker who has always been there in the most important moments and a teammate who motivates everyone around him. We are very happy to have him here in Como,” said Fabregas, commenting on the transfer.
