Milan stays close behind city rival Inter. AC Milan was down 0-1 in Como, but was able to rely on a very strong Adrien Rabiot and still won 3-1.
Inter had taken the lead on Wednesday with a narrow 1-0 win against Lecce. This put Milan under pressure a day later not to let the gap widen further. The game did not start well for the favorites. After only ten minutes, a short corner variation found former Hertha player Kempf, who rose highest and headed Como into the lead from close range.
Milan then searched for a response, but couldn’t find one for a long time. It was only shortly before half-time that the visitors were able to make a decisive offensive move: Rabiot dribbled the ball past Kempf in the penalty area and was given a slight push by the defender – penalty. The VAR check confirmed the decision. Nkunku took advantage of the opportunity with a bit of luck, as home keeper Butez got a hand to his shot from the center but couldn’t prevent the goal (45+1).
Rabiot scores twice
After the break, Milan came out of the dressing room strong and turned the game around: Rafael Leao cut in from the left and played a fine pass into the penalty area to Rabiot, who controlled the ball with his chest and finished coolly with a first-time shot into the bottom right corner (55′). The hosts then looked for a response, but were unable to make a decisive impact in attack. And so, shortly before the end, it was Rabiot again who found himself with too much space in front of the penalty area and made it 3-1 with a low shot from 20 meters (88′). With two goals and the penalty he won, the Frenchman was undoubtedly the man of the match.
Milan thus secured their twelfth win of the season and reduced the gap to leaders Inter to three points again. Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team will continue on Sunday (8:45 p.m.) with a home game against Lecce. Como will not be in action until Monday (8:45 p.m.) when they face Lazio Rome.
