Marc Marquez explains his risky overtaking maneuver against Marco Bezzecchi and the subsequent crash—he is not bothered by the cheers of Italian Rossi fans
“I’ve always said it: other people think I’m not from this planet, but I’m human, and humans make mistakes,” says Marc Marquez about his crash in the Misano sprint. For the first time in the 2025 season, the Ducati factory rider made a serious mistake in Saturday’s race.
At Silverstone, he was beaten by his brother Alex Marquez and finished second. Otherwise, Marc Marquez won 14 of the 15 sprints before Misano. On Saturday alone, he collected 177 World Championship points. Ironically, this winning streak came to an end at Ducati’s home race.
“I made this mistake in turn 15 after I had already managed the most difficult part of the race – namely the start,” says Marc Marquez, going into detail: “I took a very high risk in the first two corners.”
“When I saw that Bezzecchi made two or three mistakes, I attacked. Actually, I didn’t want to attack him there, but later, because I feel more comfortable with used tires.“
”I also took a very high risk when overtaking Bezzecchi. It was a place where you don’t normally overtake. But you have to surprise your opponents in this way.” He squeezed past the Aprilia in turn 6.

“On that same lap, I didn’t take into account that the temperature of the front tire might not have come down yet. It was the first time I had taken the lead there, and I braked a little later.”
“Everything came together a bit and then my front wheel folded. Nobody’s perfect, and at the end of the day, you know, I’m taking a big risk in the sprint races this season—and so far it’s always been successful.”
“But eventually the day will come when it goes wrong—today was that day. But since Austria a year ago, I haven’t made a mistake in a sprint. It can happen—and today it happened, at the easiest moment.”
Rossi fans cheer Marquez crash
After the crash, his Ducati collided with the air fence. Marc Marquez also slid into the air fence with his helmet first, but at low speed. He did not sustain any injuries.
When he crashed, Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi, who is also part of Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Academy, took the lead again. The Italian fans in the stands erupted in loud cheers.
“Well, they define themselves with actions like that, don’t they?” Marc Marquez commented immediately after the sprint in his Spanish media round. “You don’t have to pay any more attention to them.”

For Sunday’s Grand Prix, the next duel could be between Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez: “Let’s see if we can stay close to Bezzecchi with the medium rear tire, who is currently the rider with the best rhythm.”
“Of course, the start and the first few laps are always important. After that, we’ll try to manage the whole thing as best we can,” Marc Marquez looks ahead. “Maybe we won’t have the opportunity to attack because they are faster—like in Catalonia.”
“If we have the chance, we’ll try. If not, you have to understand that a podium is a good result. I still have a 170-point lead, which is a lot. People always ask, ‘When are you going to finish the championship?’“
”I’ll try to finish it as quickly as possible, but the most important thing is to manage it well. I think Bezzecchi will be the fastest rider tomorrow. In the end, I also have to understand that it’s not easy, but I have to understand that he’s not the main rival in the championship.”
