Champions Barcelona ended the season with a 3-0 win in Bilbao. Robert Lewandowski was the match winner with a brace.
There was nothing at stake in this match on Sunday evening. Barcelona were already champions, and Bilbao had already secured qualification for the Champions League.
The home side from the Basque Country started bravely but were unable to capitalize. Barcelona did better at the other end: Fermin played the ball into the feet of Lewandowski, and Nunez misjudged it slightly. The Pole took the ball well and lifted it delicately over Unai Simon and into the net (14′). With this goal, the Catalans broke the 100-goal mark in the league this season.
And it got even better for the Blaugrana and Lewandowski: Raphinha’s corner was unfortunately deflected by Unai Gomez to the far post, where the Pole headed into the empty net. Otherwise, not much happened after the break. But there was a special and emotional moment shortly before the end: club icon de Marcos, who has been with the club since 2009, will end his career in the summer and left the San Mames pitch for the last time. He was embraced by his teammates and received a standing ovation. After this spine-tingling moment, there was another highlight on the pitch as Olmo scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 (90+4).
