Kabayel ignores World Cup fight

However, the promoter of German heavyweight boxer Agit Kabayel is talking about a possible title fight in a soccer stadium next summer—but Kabayel is still ignoring the World Cup opportunity.

Germany’s boxing hope Agit Kabayel is calmly looking ahead to a possible world championship fight after his upcoming heavyweight duel with Poland’s Damian Knyba.

“The media are talking a lot about the fights that will come after this one. My team and I are focusing on preparing for Saturday first.
We’re not letting ourselves be influenced too much. The plan is to win on Saturday – and then the rest will follow,” said Kabayel at the press conference on Thursday.

Promoter already thinking about world championship fight

On Saturday (7 p.m./DAZN), the interim world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), who is undefeated in 26 professional fights, will face the equally undefeated Knyba in front of 13,000 spectators in Oberhausen.

Meanwhile, Kabayel’s promoter George Warren hinted at what the next steps might be. According to the Brit, starting Monday, he will “put a lot of pressure on the WBC to give Agit a chance at the title this summer.”

World championship fight against Usyk?

Warren mentioned a “soccer stadium” as a possible venue, with Germany also a possible location: “We want to do it here. Of course, the numbers have to be right.”

As WBC interim champion, Kabayel is entitled to a world title fight against WBC, IBF, and WBA world champion Alexander Usyk. To do so, however, the 33-year-old must win the interim fight against Knyba.

Kabayel recently fought three times in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and secured his position for a world championship fight with convincing victories, including one against Chinese colossus Zhilei Zhang in February 2025.
