How Bischof and Palhinha could be connected

The German record champions’ midfield is now extremely well-stocked, at least in terms of numbers, following the transfer of Tom Bischof. Five players for two positions. It cannot be ruled out that one of these five professionals will be sold after the Club World Cup.

Upon arriving in Orlando, national team player Tom Bischof went straight to the official presentation at the Four Seasons Hotel on the Walt Disney World grounds. Together with sporting director Christoph Freund, the 19-year-old sat on the podium and spoke about his transfer, his ambitions, and his arrival at FC Bayern.

Bischof’s anticipation for what lies ahead was clear to see. “I’ve been made to feel really welcome,” he said. “I’m really enjoying it here.” The first training session, getting to know his teammates. The most important thing now is to “settle into the team and play some great games.” He has been a “fan of FC Bayern all his life,” he explains, and now he is “really looking forward to experiencing everything here.”

Five players for two positions

Bischof feels most comfortable in central midfield, saying, “I see myself playing in the six or eight position.” Two positions for which there are already four other professionals: Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Aleksander Pavlovic, and Joao Palhinha. It cannot be ruled out that something will happen during the transfer summer – after the Club World Cup. In terms of departures, that is.

Bayern would be open to talks with Goretzka if a club came in with a suitable offer. However, Goretzka, who still has a year left on his contract, does not want to leave and is determined to stay in Munich. Palhinha could be another candidate for a move. The Portuguese player would like to stick it out at the German record champions, but he also knows how the business sometimes works.

“It wasn’t an easy situation for him, a lot of things came together, including injuries. Joao didn’t play as much as he had hoped and naturally had other expectations,” said sporting director Freund. “But we will discuss everything with him calmly.” Freund is therefore leaving the 29-year-old’s future open for the time being. In any case, the confident Tom Bischof now provides additional competition for Palhinha.
