German team for World Boxing Championships finalized

Olympic boxers Maxi Klötzer and Magomed Schachidov are among those traveling to Liverpool for the title fights.

Led by Olympic boxers Maxi Klötzer and Magomed Schachidov, the German boxers are entering their first World Championships under the umbrella of the new World Boxing Association. The German Boxing Association has nominated a total of three women and six men for the competitions in Liverpool (September 4 to 14).

In addition to Klötzer (weight class up to 51 kg) and Schachidov (up to 70 kg), who both failed to make it past the first round in Paris, Tatjana Obermeier (up to 54 kg), Leonie Müller (up to 70 kg), Denis Bril (up to 65 kg), Ben Ehis (up to 80 kg), Ammar Abduljabbar (up to 85 kg), Yasse Cisse (up to 90 kg) and Nikita Putilov (over 90 kg) will also compete for Germany. Nelvie Tiafack, who won bronze at the Olympics, has since turned professional.

World Boxing was provisionally recognized as the new world governing body by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February 2025 following the scandals surrounding the long-standing IBA. World Boxing will be responsible for the boxing competitions at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. Ahead of the upcoming first senior world championships, the new federation had already hosted a U19 world championship last year.
