The Denver Nuggets make an impressive comeback: Led by an injured but determined Jamal Murray, they force a decisive Game 7 with a home win against Oklahoma City.
The Denver Nuggets won Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals 119-107 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday evening, tying the series at 3-3. Jamal Murray, who was questionable for the game due to illness, scored 25 points and set the tone early with a four-point play to start the game and later with an important step-back three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter.
Oklahoma City had a narrow lead at the break (61-58), but Denver countered shortly before halftime with a 12-0 run of its own and took the momentum into the locker room. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fought hard against defeat with 32 points, but had four fouls from the second quarter onwards and received too little help offensively: Chet Holmgren scored 19 points, Jalen Williams made only three of his 16 shots for six points. Hartenstein also had eight points and six rebounds.
Jokic dominates, Braun and Strawther deliver – concern for Gordon
Nikola Jokic once again delivered a dominant all-around performance with 29 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Christian Braun impressed with a playoff career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Julian Strawther provided the decisive momentum off the bench with 15 points, all in the second half. Strawther was particularly unstoppable in the third quarter, when Denver pulled away for the first time with a 10-0 run.
The only downside for the Nuggets was that Aaron Gordon grabbed his thigh late in the game and ended the game visibly injured. His availability for Sunday remains questionable.
On Sunday, the decisive Game 7 will take place in Oklahoma City – the winner will face the well-rested Minnesota Timberwolves, who have already advanced in five games against Golden State.
