Fury announces comeback in April

Former world champion Tyson Fury is returning to the ring. A year ago, he had once again announced his retirement from boxing.

Former boxing world champion Tyson Fury is returning to the ring as announced. The 37-year-old Briton will fight Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11, he announced on Wednesday. The fight is to take place in the UK, with the exact venue yet to be confirmed. Netflix will broadcast the fight.

“I’m excited to be back. My heart has always been in boxing and it always will be. Someone tell the king that the ace is back,” said Fury, who had already started training in recent weeks. Makhmudov lost to Germany’s heavyweight hopeful Agit Kabayel in Riyadh at the end of December 2023, but has since rehabilitated himself.

Only Usyk defeated the man who dethroned Klitschko

Fury had hung up his boxing gloves several times in his career, most recently after his defeat in December 2024 against Alexander Usyk. It was his second defeat against the Ukrainian heavyweight champion, who had also beaten him on points in May of the same year.

These are the only two of Fury’s 37 professional fights that he has ever lost. As early as July 2025, he had toyed with the idea of a comeback and a third fight against Usyk.

Fury had already announced his retirement after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but returned six months later. The “Gypsy King” rose to fame in 2015 when he surprisingly knocked WBA, IBF, and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko off the heavyweight throne after more than eleven years without defeat.

Fury then fell into a deep hole and made headlines for doping and drug offenses. In 2016, he relinquished all his belts before making a big comeback in 2018. In 2020, he captured the WBC world championship belt against Deontay Wilder and only lost it to Usyk.
