Former world champion Tyson Fury wants to return to the ring in 2026. A year ago, he had once again announced his retirement from boxing.
Former boxing world champion Tyson Fury is returning from retirement once again. The 37-year-old announced on social media on Sunday that he will resume boxing in 2026. “I’ve been away for a while, but now I’m back, 37 years old and still boxing. There’s nothing better than punching men in the face and getting paid for it,” Fury said.
Fury repeatedly retires from retirement
Fury has hung up his boxing gloves several times in his career, most recently after his defeat in December 2024 against Alexander Usyk. It was his second defeat against the Ukrainian heavyweight champion, who had also beaten him on points in May of the same year.
These are the only two of Fury’s 37 professional fights that he has ever lost. Back in July 2025, he had already toyed with the idea of a comeback and a third fight against Usyk.
Fury comeback: Date and opponent still to be confirmed
It is still unclear who Fury will face in his comeback fight and when it will take place. Recently, there had been speculation about a duel with former world champion Anthony Joshua later this year. However, following Joshua’s car accident in Nigeria last Monday, in which he suffered minor injuries, his sporting future is unclear.
Fury had already announced his retirement after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but returned six months later. The “Gypsy King” rose to fame in 2015 when he surprisingly knocked WBA, IBF, and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko off the heavyweight throne after more than eleven years without defeat.
Fury then fell into a deep hole and made headlines for doping and drug offenses. In 2016, he relinquished all his belts before making a big comeback in 2018. In 2020, he captured the WBC world championship belt against Deontay Wilder and only lost it to Usyk.
