The Swiss top match between FC Thun and FC Basel has been canceled. The reason for this is a fire in Basel’s St. Jakob Park. There was extensive damage to property.
The match between FC Thun and FC Basel 1893 scheduled for today cannot take place. The reason for this is a fire in the dressing room of FC Basel’s 1st team in St. Jakob Park, which occurred late on Friday evening for reasons that are not yet fully understood. There was extensive damage to property, but fortunately no injuries were reported by FC Basel.
The fire destroyed the entire dressing room area of the first team. The fire also affected equipment rooms and all players’ and coaches’ materials. In the list, the club also writes: “The coach’s office, the team manager’s office, the physio areas as well as showers and sanitary facilities were also damaged.”
Officially sealed
Since medical and technical equipment required for match operations was also destroyed, the game in Thun cannot take place and the Swiss Football League has approved FCB’s request to postpone the match. The entire catacombs of St. Jakob Park are officially sealed until further notice.
