Federer raves about tennis giants

Roger Federer returns to Australia after a long break. He is following the rivalry between tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner with great interest.

Tennis legend Roger Federer is a big fan of the rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. “It’s a great rivalry. They play incredibly good tennis,” the Swiss raved at a press conference ahead of the Australian Open. “We’re all here to see what happens this time. The two of them are the favorites, of course, but anything is possible,” Federer explained, looking back on the epic final between the two dominators in Paris last year. “The French Open final was incredible. The sporting world stood still for a moment – it was one of the greatest matches our sport has ever seen,” he said. Federer currently has little hope that the competition for third place in the world rankings, Alexander Zverev, will be able to break into the spheres of the Italian and the Spaniard. “Everyone is trying to keep up, but they are pushing themselves further and further,” he said. “There is much more to come. I hope that both of them remain injury-free.” Federer has returned to the Melbourne facility this year for the first time since the end of his sporting career. The Swiss, who has won the tournament six times, is set to receive a belated official farewell, among other things. He will be present at the opening ceremony on Saturday. “It’s good to be back here,” Federer said. The 44-year-old admitted that he was almost a little nervous because he was no longer used to the media hype and the many encounters with former colleagues.
Federer also revealed his fondest memory of Melbourne: the 2017 final, when he won his fifth Australian Open title against Rafael Nadal, seeded only 17th.
