Court: Another setback for McGregor

MMA star Conor McGregor must pay damages following rape allegations. The judges have upheld a ruling from November.

Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has suffered another legal defeat in a civil lawsuit over rape allegations. On Thursday, the Court of Appeal in Dublin upheld the damages award against the Irishman from last November. As a result, McGregor must pay the victim €248,603. The victim claims that McGregor “brutally raped and assaulted” her in 2018.

The 37-year-old, who was not present when the verdict was announced, denies the allegations. According to his statement, he had consensual sex with the woman. Consequently, he appealed the November ruling. The incident is said to have taken place in a hotel in the Irish capital in 2018. The woman stated that she suffered severe bruising and post-traumatic stress disorder.

McGregor is one of the biggest stars in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in mixed martial arts, where he held several titles. In recent years, however, he has been unable to recapture his former glory. He lost three of his last four fights, with his most recent bout taking place in 2021.
