“It’s so incredibly difficult”: Record-breaking Bayern surpass themselves

0

FC Bayern ended the first half of the Bundesliga season with a 3-1 win in Cologne, setting yet another record. Coach Vincent Kompany was proud of his players, but also spoke of an “inner conflict.”

“It feels good, and even better with the record today. It was an important win today against a difficult opponent,” said Serge Gnabry after the 3-1 win in Cologne, speaking to Sky. After falling behind, it was the attacking player who sensationally equalized for Bayern with a bouncing shot. After the break, Min-Jae Kim and substitute Lennart Karl turned the game around. “We knew that if we remained patient and played our game, the spaces would open up at some point,” Gnabry continued, adding: “At the moment, we are managing to stay true to our game even when we suffer setbacks. We know we have enormous quality.”

The quality of the Munich team can also be seen in the bare figures, i.e. the table. In their 17th Bundesliga game, the record champions secured their 15th victory in Cologne, with the other two games ending in draws. With 47 points and a goal difference of +53, FCB also set a new first-half record in the German top flight, surpassing their own previous best. The previous record was also set by Bayern, who also picked up 47 points in the 2013/14 season with a goal difference of “only” +35.

“From tomorrow, everything starts from scratch again”

“It’s an internal conflict with my mentality that we’re already celebrating a record in the middle of the season, because it’s not a title,” said coach Vincent Kompany at the press conference. But: “It’s so incredibly difficult to achieve any record at this club or in the Bundesliga. That’s why I say to the guys: ‘Congratulations, you’ve done it.’”

Nevertheless, the focus immediately shifted back to the future in a very professional manner. On Saturday evening, the team faces third-placed RB Leipzig, who are 15 points behind and still remember the 6-0 defeat on the first matchday.
“The second half of the season starts tomorrow, everything starts from scratch again and we will try to win the second half of the season too,” said Kompany.
The 30-year-old defender was also asked about the upcoming match against RB Leipzig, who are third in the table, 15 points behind and still smarting from the 6-0 defeat on the first matchday.

After Xabi Alonso’s departure: Real embarrassed in cup match against second division team

0

In the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid suffered an embarrassing defeat against second division team Albacete Balompie following the dismissal of coach Xabi Alonso.

A few days after their disappointing 3-2 defeat to FC Barcelona in the Supercopa final, Real Madrid continued their campaign in another cup competition: in the Copa del Rey, they faced second division side Albacete Balompie, who had knocked out first division side Celta Vigo in the round of 32.

Following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso, former Real player Alvaro Arbeola took over and made six changes: Lunin, Fran Garcia, Arda Güler, Mastantuono, Jimenez, and 19-year-old Cestero started in place of Courtois, Carreras, Camavinga, Rodrygo, Tchouameni, and Bellingham.

The home side were without Vallejo, who had been under contract with Los Blancos for many years, due to injury.

Real struggle

Real took control from the start, but the Madrid side found it extremely difficult to get in front of Raul Lizoain’s goal. The Royals tried their luck from distance, but Valverde’s first attempt failed to find the target (6′). However, Albacete also played courageously and created chances through quick counterattacks, but both José Carlos (12′) and Bernabeu (32′) sent the ball well wide of the opponent’s goal. Because Arda Güler (42′) and Mastantuono (40′) failed to finish attacks from promising positions, all signs pointed to a goalless draw at half-time. But not so for Albacete: The home side took the lead out of nowhere through Javi Villar, who nodded the ball under the bar from a corner to send the Estadio Caros Belmonte into raptures (42′). But Real came back before half-time, with Mastantuono pushing the ball over the line from close range (45’+3).

Albacete completes the sensation

The second half began exactly where the first had ended. Real started with some pressure, but it faded as quickly as it had begun. Albacete had found an effective remedy for the unsettled Madrilenians with quick counterattacks, but they were only able to break through the defensive block on rare occasions: first Gonzalo missed with a header (68′), then a shot from Vinicius was blocked (73′). And so Albacete smelled blood: while the second division side missed a double chance, Carvajal and Gonzalez inadvertently laid the ball right at the feet of Betancor Sanchez, who caught Lunin off guard with a volley in the penalty area (82′). Albacete now threw everything into defense, while Madrid pushed forward. And that paid off, because in the four minutes of added time, Gonzalo nodded in the equalizer (90+1). So, extra time? Not quite. As Madrid seemed desperate to avoid extra time and continued to push forward, spaces opened up at the back, which Betancor Sanchez exploited once again: the striker was sent on a run from his own half. Once in the penalty area, Carvajal blocked his first shot, but his second, a curling shot into the far corner, flew past the defender and Lunin into the net, sending the Estadio Carlos Belmonte into ecstasy. Because the home side ultimately survived one last long ball, the sensation was complete: second-division Albacete knocked Real Madrid out of the cup.

For Albacete, normality will return at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at FC Cadiz after what was likely a sleepless night of partying. Real Madrid will face Levante UD a day earlier at 2 p.m. and will be under immense pressure given their recent string of defeats.

Bellingham attacks after Xabi Alonso’s departure: “Pile of crap”

In an internet post, Jude Bellingham responded to the change of coach at Real Madrid, using strong words to criticize the media.

Jude Bellingham responded to Xabi Alonso’s departure from Real with harsh words and attacked the media. “Until now, I’ve let too much of it slide, always hoping that the truth would come out in time. But honestly… what a load of crap,” the former Borussia Dortmund pro wrote on his JB5 app. “I really feel sorry for the people who believe every word these clowns and their ‘sources’ say.”

Bellingham criticizes “misinformation for clicks”

The post refers to media reports. These reports claimed that Bellingham was one of the players who did not believe in Xabi Alonso’s tactics and ideas. In addition, there were reports of a tense relationship between the coach and some of the stars. In particular, a dispute between the coach and star striker Vinicius Jr. during last fall’s Clasico was brought up again. After that, things only went “downhill,” wrote ABC, for example.

“Don’t believe everything you read. At some point, these people will be held accountable for spreading such harmful misinformation for clicks and controversy,” said 22-year-old Bellingham.

“Thank you for everything, Mister”

Xabi Alonso had to leave Real Madrid after a good six months with the team due to too many uninspired performances and the loss of the Supercopa to FC Barcelona. Former national player Alvaro Arbeloa (39), previously coach of the second team, has now taken over the position. Real enjoyed similar success in 2016 when Zinedine Zidane was promoted from coach of the second team to coach of the star ensemble. However, the careers of the two soccer coaches are not comparable.

Bellingham posted a photo showing him and Xabi Alonso with happy faces. Bellingham had kind words for the former Leverkusen coach. “Thank you for everything, Mister,” said Bellingham. In a post on Instagram, the England international added: “It was a pleasure, all the best for your future!”

Cup in the evening

Without Xabi Alonso, the Blancos continue their Copa del Rey campaign in the evening. The record champions will then face second division side Albacete Balompie away (9 p.m.) and are looking to advance to the quarterfinals. On Saturday, UD Levante will visit the Bernabeu in the battle for points against the second-placed team in the league.

Magnin on Ailton: “He was no longer the lightning bolt, just the bolt.”

FC Basel has clear rules: players who return overweight after the winter break must pay a fine. But this year, the scales remained unburdened. Head coach Ludovic Magnin also recalled his former teammate Ailton.

“No one came back overweight. But the break was also much shorter than usual,” Ludovic Magnin explained in an interview with blue Sport. The players only had a few days to relax between Christmas and New Year’s, which made it difficult to overeat.

Every player has their own ideal weight, which is crucial for their performance on the pitch. “My fighting weight as a Bundesliga player, for example, was 79 kilos, and at the end of my career at FC Zurich it was 82 kilos. You notice those three kilos in the intensity, in the runs, in the maximum speed,” says Magnin. Weight control is essential today, even if coaches like Pep Guardiola were ridiculed in the past for their strict methods. “Now everyone knows why it was so important to him.”

For Magnin himself, things are looking less rosy at the moment. “You don’t want to know!” he replies with a laugh when asked about his current weight. “At the moment, I’m afraid to step on the scales. It’s in a range I never wanted to be in. That’s just the way it is. I’ve lost my ambition at the moment.“ The FC Basel coach admits that his love of food and lack of exercise – just a few hours of padel tennis per week – are exacerbating the problem. ”I need to pay more attention to my diet and do more exercise.”

Short winter break also had advantages

However, the short winter break brought advantages for the team. “It’s generally said that you don’t lose much in the first two weeks of the holidays, but from the third week onwards, if you don’t do anything, you slowly start to lose fitness,” explains Magnin. After an intense period with 30 games before Christmas, the coaching staff decided to give the players a week off. They then had to complete three individual training sessions, with the fitness coach staying in contact. “If he noticed that a player wasn’t doing anything, he would call him and remind him.”

Magnin also thinks back to his own playing days, especially Ailton, his former teammate at Werder Bremen. “I immediately thought of Ailton. But first you have to know that Ailton was never actually there when training started. He always took an extra week or two of vacation. That gave him two more weeks to eat.“ The Brazilian often returned to training late and overweight. ”When he did come back to training, he was no longer the lightning bolt, just a bolt,” Magnin recalls with a laugh.

Nevertheless, Ailton remained successful on the pitch and scored 28 goals in the championship season. “You have to know that back then in Bremen, there was also Coke or Fanta on the tables. And of course, Ailton hardly drank any water. Let’s put it this way: his diet at the time was certainly not to his advantage. But of course, soccer wasn’t as intense back then as it is today.”

Flagg drama overshadows Mavs defeat against Denver

0

The Denver Nuggets have won their second consecutive away game. Led by an outstanding Jamal Murray, Denver beat the Dallas Mavericks 118-109 to celebrate their third win in a row, still without Nikola Jokic. Meanwhile, the Mavs have to worry about Cooper Flagg.

Murray once again took charge offensively, scoring 33 points on 13/24 shooting from the field, along with five assists. It was already the guard’s 12th game of the season with at least 30 points. He was supported by Aaron Gordon, who contributed 22 points with high efficiency (8/12 FG), and Peyton Watson, who had 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Denver controlled the game for long stretches and led by 23 points at one point, but let the Mavericks come back in the final quarter.

Decisive run after brief Dallas comeback

Dallas cut the deficit to five points at the start of the fourth quarter before a three-pointer by Tim Hardaway sparked a 13-2 run by the Nuggets. Murray put the finishing touches on this phase with another three-pointer to make it 101-85. Although the Mavericks closed the gap to six points in the final minutes, Murray with a jumper and Gordon from the free throw line sealed the victory.

Flagg injured

A bitter moment in the game occurred in the second quarter: Cooper Flagg, the number one draft pick, twisted his ankle during a defensive play and suffered an ankle injury to his left foot. The 19-year-old returned shortly before halftime but did not play in the second half. Flagg finished the game with six points in 15 minutes.

In addition, Daniel Gafford was sidelined in the second half with another injury. The Mavericks were already without Anthony Davis (hand injury, approximately six weeks out) and other injured players.

Dallas made only 5 of 34 three-pointers, setting a season low (14.7%). Naji Marshall led the Mavericks with 24 points, while Brandon Williams added 20 points. Denver, on the other hand, remains stable even without Jokic: the win improves their record to 28-13, puts them in second place in the West, and was their sixth win in nine games without the three-time MVP.

Curious revelation: Does Forza Horizon 5 reveal when Forza Horizon 6 will be released?

0

Most fans had assumed that the release date for Forza Horizon 6 would be announced on January 22—along with the first gameplay impressions. But now, of all things, it seems to have been leaked by its predecessor.

It probably wouldn’t have remained a secret for long anyway. Nevertheless, the in-house leak seems strange at first glance: without any fanfare or PR campaign, a screenshot has appeared in Forza Horizon 5 announcing the release of Forza Horizon 6.

The new installment is expected to be released on May 19, with early access starting on May 15. Publisher Xbox Game Studios had not previously disclosed these dates. And no one had expected them before January 22.

Xbox Developer Direct will take place in eight days – an event at which the presentation of Forza Horizon 6 is expected to take up some space. First gameplay impressions are on the agenda. Actually, a fitting setting for the release date, which now seems to be already known.

Additional content in the Premium Edition

The screenshot also reveals what pre-orderers of the Premium Edition can expect in terms of content: VIP membership, a welcome pack, a Time Attack Car Pack, an Italian Passion Car Pack, the Car Pass, and two premium expansions.

While Forza Horizon 5 is set in Mexico, Forza Horizon 6 shifts the racing game series to Japan. The game will initially be released only on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the PlayStation 5 version to follow at a later date.

“Finally, I’m here”: Razgatlioglu between anticipation and realism

0

For Toprak Razgatlioglu, his promotion to MotoGP is a long-cherished dream come true – but despite all the anticipation, the Pramac rider remains realistic.

A historic moment for Turkish motorsport and for Toprak Razgatlioglu himself: The three-time Superbike World Champion was officially presented as a MotoGP rider for Pramac-Yamaha for the 2026 season on Tuesday.

This step fulfills a long-cherished dream for the 29-year-old and at the same time marks the beginning of one of the most exciting chapters in his successful career.

“The dream has finally come true”

Razgatlioglu was understandably emotional during his presentation. He emphasized that it was “a very special moment” for him, not only personally, but also for his home country: “The dream has finally come true.”

Standing in the leather of a MotoGP team for the first time and seeing the final design of the motorcycle was also a highlight for him. “I had this really big dream of MotoGP and now I’m finally here,” said the Turkish rider happily.

The move to Pramac-Yamaha was the right decision for him, “because the team and everyone here are really very welcoming.” He felt at home right away. His promise to Pramac and the fans is therefore clear: “I will give my best every race weekend.”

First impressions of the MotoGP Yamaha

Even before the official presentation, Razgatlioglu was able to test the new Yamaha M1 with a V4 engine. His impressions were overwhelmingly positive.

However, he explained that the difference to the Superbike World Championship is enormous. “It’s a completely different motorcycle. The acceleration in particular is incredible. And it’s really fast on the straights. I’ll need time to get used to the bike and still have a lot to learn,“ said the rookie.

The tires in particular posed a major challenge, as he still had to feel and get to know their limits. However, he was encouraged by the extensive test schedule: ”We have a six-day test in Malaysia. And I hope we find a way to understand the bike and adapt.“ Basically, he thinks the team is ready for 2026, even if it will be ”a tough season“ for him personally. That’s because the switch from the Superbike World Championship to MotoGP is extremely demanding. ”Everything feels different, but I’ll do my best.”

Focus on Malaysia and learning process

Razgatlioglu’s hopes lie with the aforementioned Malaysia test. He expects to see significant progress there, not least because Yamaha will be bringing new components.

At the same time, he emphasized: “This is my first year and we have to try out a lot of things, because when I ride Superbike, everything is easy, but MotoGP is completely different, especially the tires. But we have time, and I will test everything and try to find the way to ride fast.”

WRC 2026: New look, new duo: M-Sport presents the Puma Rally1

M-Sport kicks off the 2026 WRC season with a new look – the Ford Puma Rally1 sports fresh colors and an Irish driver duo – it all starts in Monte Carlo

M-Sport Ford has unveiled the final version of the current Ford Puma Rally1, which the team will use to compete in the 2026 WRC season. The British team has once again opted for a new design: the purple livery with Red Bull branding from 2025 has been replaced by a striking white, green, and blue color scheme.

The impetus for the color change came, among other things, from the expanded collaboration with Motorsport Ireland and its rally academy. This partnership led to an all-Irish driver lineup for 2026: Josh McErlean and Jon Armstrong.

McErlean is contesting his second season with M-Sport. The 26-year-old had already had a strong rookie season last year after moving up from WRC2.

He will be joined by 31-year-old Northern Irishman Jon Armstrong, who has moved up to the Rally1 team after finishing runner-up in the 2025 European Rally Championship and winning in Wales and Croatia.

According to insider information, M-Sport’s development program during the winter break focused primarily on vehicle geometry and weight distribution.

“We have a manageable plan, but we probably won’t use all of our homologation jokers,” explained Tim Jackson, chief engineer of the Puma Rally1, at the end of last season.

“However, there are a few things in the area of geometry that should allow us to work on the weight distribution to further optimize the balance. Some of the points we have been working on are not directly related to performance.”

“One of these has been brake cooling in recent years. These components are not subject to homologation in current cars, so it doesn’t appear in the official documentation at all.“

”Brake cooling is not a classic performance factor, but when it works, you can get the most out of your brake package. This ensures that performance remains stable throughout the entire length of a stage.”

“If you can improve things on the car so that the driver can push 100 percent all the time, then you’ve effectively gained performance. But towards the end of a car’s life, every further development becomes increasingly costly and brings less return.”

The team completed its pre-season testing in the south of France last week before things get serious next week at the WRC season opener in Monte Carlo. “Our test went really well,” reports Jackson. “As you know, our driver duo is very young.”

“Jon is new to the team, so the focus was mainly on him settling in, racking up miles, and building confidence that he can then translate into the rally. We’re going into the race with realistic expectations.”

“Monte Carlo is a rally where you can finish well ahead if you deliver a consistently solid performance over the weekend. Let the others push and make mistakes while we build up our rhythm step by step.”

2026 Dakar Rally: Al-Attiyah back in the lead – Sanders injured in crash

0

Ford drivers lose a lot of time on stage ten – Nasser Al-Attiyah (Dacia) regains the lead – Daniel Sanders (KTM) crashes in the motorcycle category

Mathieu Serradori secured Century’s first stage victory on the tenth stage of the 2026 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. The Ford drivers encountered some difficulties and lost a lot of time. Nasser Al-Attiyah (Dacia) retook the lead and now has a twelve-minute advantage over Henk Lategan (Toyota).

The tenth stage was the second part of the marathon stage of the second week. From the temporary tent camp, the route continued eastward toward Bischa. There were separate routes for motorcycles (368 kilometers) and cars (420 kilometers). Sand dominated the terrain.

The day got off to a turbulent start for Cristina Gutierrez. After only about seven kilometers, the Spaniard rolled her car, but she was able to continue with some time lost. Her Dacia teammate Sebastien Loeb had managed to repair the power steering problems yesterday evening.

The difficult day in the dunes once again provided a surprise. Serradori, who started in 31st place, made the most of this advantage and took the stage win. It was the first for the South African Century brand. In the overall standings, a small preliminary decision may have been made. Al-Attiyah, who started in 14th place immediately after Lategan, took second place, just six minutes behind. His immediate rivals lost time. Lategan was only 13 minutes behind Serradori today, but the Ford camp in particular lost a lot of time. Nani Roma lost 20 minutes and Carlos Sainz 45, because Sainz spent a long time looking for a waypoint. “No idea, difficult,” commented “El Matador.”
Mattias Ekström had technical problems after just 97 kilometers. When the Swede finally reached the finish line, the extent of his time loss became apparent. His difficulties cost Ekström half an hour.

This result means that Al-Attiyah has regained the lead in the overall standings. His lead over Lategan is exactly twelve minutes. Roma fell back to third place, 12:50 minutes behind Al-Attiyah.

Loeb is now fourth (+23:04 minutes), followed by Serradori (+33:42). Ekström and Sainz fell back to sixth and seventh place, 34 and 39 minutes behind respectively. With three stages to go before the finish in Yanbu, the race is shaping up well for Al-Attiyah. “It was very tough,” said the five-time overall winner. “My head and my body took a real beating! But we really attacked from start to finish. The car is fine, but I’m completely exhausted. It’s not because I’m too old, though.”

Motorcycles: Daniel Sanders injured in crash

Tosha Schareina opened the day, but the Honda rider was soon caught up on the track by KTM riders Daniel Sanders and Michael Docherty. At kilometer 138, Sanders crashed. His rivals Schareina and Ricky Brabec (Honda) stopped to help. At first, everything seemed to be fine. Everyone continued riding. However, it soon became apparent that Sanders was unable to keep up with the pace of the other leading riders. As a result, Schareina, Brabec, Adrien van Beveren (also Honda), and Docherty opened up the track. Sanders followed about five minutes behind, but his gap was growing rapidly. During the neutralization, he sought medical attention. According to initial information, the Australian suffered injuries to his left shoulder, which he later confirmed at the finish line.

“It definitely looks like a broken collarbone,” Sanders reports. “We checked it while refueling, but yes, it happened at kilometer 140. I jumped over a dune and it was pretty scary. I almost landed on Tosha.”

“I got up and knew that my collarbone was broken. I also broke my sternum. I’m not giving up, so I’m not going to back down until someone tells me to get out or they drag me out of the race. I’m not stopping!”

Van Beveren ultimately secured the day’s victory, four minutes ahead of Luciano Benavides (KTM). Sanders lost almost half an hour in total. In the provisional overall standings, Benavides was initially the new leader, 41 seconds ahead of Brabec. However, Brabec and Schareina were subsequently awarded time credits for stopping and helping Sanders after his crash. This meant that the overall lead changed from Benavides to Brabec. The Honda rider has a 56-second lead. Schareina is in third place, 15:43 minutes behind.
On Thursday, the eleventh stage will head north to Al-Henakiyah. With a total of 882 kilometers, it will be a long day. The special stage will cover 347 kilometers.

MotoGP 2026: VR46 Ducati unveils new “Black and Light” design

0

VR46 Ducati kicks off the 2026 MotoGP season with a new look and a proven rider duo – Rossi wants to finally see results after the ups and downs of 2025

Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP team VR46 Ducati officially unveiled its colors and riders for the upcoming 2026 season today in the Italian capital Rome. The presentation at the magnificent Villa Miani was dominated by a new design chapter entitled “Black and Light.”

The team unveiled a fresh, significantly modified paint job for the Ducati Desmosedici GP. The redesign is based on a combination of striking fluorescent yellow with black accents, where white previously dominated.

“It’s a project we did together with Aldo Drudi,” explains team owner Rossi. “I think this is now the third season of our collaboration.”

“Three years ago, we designed the yellow bike with white. We decided to continue with that last year. But this year we wanted to change something: we’re keeping the yellow, but adding black, which has more of a racing character, and thus returning to our more classic colors to a certain extent.”

Di Giannantonio wants to use continuity to his advantage

As for the rider duo, everything will remain the same in 2026. Fabio Di Giannantonio will continue to race for VR46-Ducati in the 2026 season. The Italian has shown consistent progress in MotoGP in recent years and finished sixth in the overall standings in the 2025 season.
“This is my third year with the team,” says Diggia. “I hope to take another big step forward in my development over the course of the season and be able to fight at the front.”

“It’s very special to be starting again with the team and with the same crew as last year. For me, this is the first time in my MotoGP career that I’m continuing in this constellation, and it feels great.”

As in the previous year, he will be riding the current Ducati prototype and feels well prepared. “I have more experience, and the team also has more experience with this situation. I think I am more mature and better prepared to understand what works well for me on the bike and what doesn’t.”

Morbidelli sees room for improvement in 2026

Franco Morbidelli joined VR46-Ducati in 2025 and will continue the collaboration this season. The experienced Italian, who has been riding in MotoGP since 2018, celebrated his first podium finishes with the team last year and wants to build on that success.

“We now have another year of shared experience, and I’m sure that will pay off for us,” he says optimistically. “We will definitely speed up some of the processes that take place during a race weekend, and I have great confidence in the crew and the entire team.”

Morbidelli admits that there are a few things that need to be improved compared to last season. “Last year was positive overall, especially the first half of the season—a year in which we had some good results, some very good ones, but also a few bad ones. So there are things we need to improve.”

The Italian will once again ride last year’s Ducati model in 2026, even though VR46 had the option of a second current factory bike. However, the high cost of operating two of the latest machines and Morbidelli’s fluctuating performance led the team to forego this option.

Rossi sets goals for VR46 and the new season

The VR46 presentation comes during the busy MotoGP preparation phase: in the coming weeks, other teams will present their bikes and riders before the first test days at the beginning of February and the start of the season at the end of February.

Despite a somewhat mixed 2025 season without a victory, Ducati continues to show confidence and support for the VR46 project. Team owner Rossi assures: “We are ready, we are very optimistic, and the goal is to do better than last year. The past season was a rollercoaster ride.”

“But MotoGP is always very difficult anyway. It’s almost impossible for any team to stay at the top every weekend. That’s why I think our goal for this year can be to improve and be competitive everywhere.”
