FC Bayern Munich delivered one of its most convincing performances of the EuroLeague season against Maccabi Tel Aviv. With energy, balanced scoring, and a dominant third quarter, the team achieved its long-awaited breakthrough.
Bayern got off to a strong start and put Maccabi under pressure early on. After eight minutes, Munich led 23-16, before a hustle play by Stefan Jovic and Justinian Jessup’s subsequent three-pointer finally ignited the arena. Jessup added two free throws, and David McCormack increased the lead to 46-35 with an and-one shortly afterwards. Maccabi closed the gap to 47-41, but Xavier Rathan-Mayes responded promptly with a pull-up three-pointer to make it 50-41. That run took the teams into the break – Andi Obst and Jessup were Bayern’s top scorers with nine points each, while O’Shea Brissett led the field for Maccabi at halftime with 13 points.
Bayern pulls away after the break
Bayern continued to set the tone after the break. With lots of movement, presence on the board, and aggressive defense, the hosts created better finishes and controlled the tempo. McCormack took charge in the low post, and Bayern pulled away to 74:47 in an impressive run in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, the visitors tried once again to reduce the deficit, closing the gap to 78:62 at one point, but Bayern did not allow them to get any closer. The Munich team played out the game calmly and ultimately won 95-71, ending their nine-game losing streak in the EuroLeague. McCormack was the top scorer with 18 points, followed by Vladimir Lucic (17), Obst (15), and Jessup (12).
