FC Bayern’s basketball team has continued its upward trend in the EuroLeague in impressive fashion. The German champions dominated at both ends against league leaders Hapoel.
The Israelis, who were hosting Munich for the first time, got off to a good start with 26 points. This was thanks to the tandem of Vasilije Micic (13 PTS) and Dan Oturu, who scored 19 points between them. However, the latter was unable to add any more points after that. On the Bavarian side, national player Andi Obst was completely cold at first, missing all five shots in the first half. The sharpshooter didn’t score his first points of the game until shortly before halftime. He first tied the game at 39 points with a three-pointer and then scored four more points to seal Munich’s halftime lead (39:43).
After the break, the visitors continued their momentum, making it particularly difficult for the EuroLeague newcomers to score three-pointers. Hapoel converted only 4/29 from distance, including more than 20 consecutive misses until the final buzzer.
Bayern allows only 25 points in the second half
Led by top scorer Isaiah Mike (16 points), Munich went on an outstanding 7:29 run across the quarters. The Menora Mivtachim Arena seemed at times frozen by the course of the game, which put FCBB +15 ahead before the final quarter.
There was no comeback in the final quarter from the hosts’ perspective. Instead, Bayern made sure of the result early on. Hapoel was even confronted with boos from its own fans.
For the team of legendary coach Dimitrios Itoudis, this is already the second sobering EuroLeague defeat in a row. Just last week, they squandered a 27-point lead against Partizan Belgrade. Bayern, on the other hand, can rightly celebrate a strong performance, especially defensively. It is only their second away win of the current season.
