EuroLeague legend Kyle Hines is moving into management: The former Bamberg fan favorite is taking on the role of assistant general manager at the Long Island Nets. After his career in Europe, the 39-year-old is staying in the world of basketball.
Kyle Hines, one of the most successful US professionals in Europe, is now continuing his basketball career off the court. The 39-year-old has been appointed Assistant General Manager by the Long Island Nets, the G-League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets. Hines was already part of the organization last season as Player Development Assistant and is now moving up alongside Kory Jones.
Hines is a familiar name to German basketball fans: in the 2010/11 season, he won the double with Brose Baskets Bamberg, taking both the championship and the cup. His commitment and power under the basket won the hearts of fans, earning him the award for the league’s most popular player and making him both Finals MVP and All-Star Game MVP. His nickname “Karl-Heinz” in Franconia is still legendary today.
European successes and legendary status
Hines’ resume is full of titles: he won the EuroLeague four times, twice with Olympiacos Piraeus (2012, 2013) and twice with CSKA Moscow (2016, 2019). He was Italian champion several times with Milan and was named to the All-25 EuroLeague team to mark the 25th anniversary of the competition. His versatility made him one of the most dominant big men in Europe despite being “only” 1.98 meters tall.
