“Appreciation must be fair”: DBB adjusts bonuses for men and women

The DBB has adjusted the bonuses for successes in men’s and women’s tournaments, as Dennis Schröder revealed in an interview with the Braunschweiger Zeitung.

According to Schröder, there were new negotiations between the DBB and Franz Wagner, Schröder, his lawyer Filip Piljanovic, co-captain Johannes Voigtmann, and former national player Johannes Herber from the Athleten Deutschland association. The exact outcome is not public, but Schröder is satisfied with the negotiations.

“We have come to an agreement and the bonuses are now clearly set out in writing. They are fair from our point of view,” explained the Braunschweig native. It is particularly pleasing that the DBB is not making any distinctions between men and women when it comes to bonuses. “It doesn’t just apply to us guys, everything is the same for the women too. We men are not given preferential treatment. If the women come third, second or first, they should get exactly what we get,“ he explained.

Dennis Schröder demands ”appreciation”

After winning the World Cup, there was discontent within the team over the bonuses. “When you have Franz Wagner, who should have been an NBA All-Star this season, when you have Dennis Schröder, when you have Daniel Theis, when you have this golden era that everyone is talking about, then the appreciation has to be right,” Schröder explained.

He said it wasn’t about getting “rich,” but simply about being “appreciated.” “Everyone is an NBA or Euroleague player, we have 82 games, plus the playoffs. If you also play for the national team, it just has to be right,” said the captain.

The DBB is now starting its preparations for the European Basketball Championship, which begins on August 27. The first test is on August 8 against fellow favorites Slovenia.
