Mercedes-AMG presents its DTM line-up for the 2025 season: What is changing in the teams, who is changing and which race winner has not been nominated
Mercedes-AMG has announced its line-up for the 2025 DTM season: the brand with the star will compete with a total of four cars, as in the previous year, bringing the number of confirmed cars to 15 (click here for an overview). These will be fielded by the Winward squad and the Landgraf team, which replaces the HRT squad that has switched to Ford.
Mercedes-AMG has finally managed to find a second team to field alongside Winward. “In addition to defending the manufacturers‘ title, we are clearly aiming for the drivers’ championship again. To achieve this, we are relying on a strong line-up,” says motorsport director Christoph Sagemüller. There are a number of changes to the drivers.
What exactly are the changes? Maro Engel, who fought for the title with Winward last year and finished third in the championship, is the only one staying with his team, but he will have a new teammate.
Two newcomers, ex-vice champion Auer is changing teams
And that is 30-year-old Frenchman Jules Gounon, who has repeatedly flirted with the DTM in recent years and once again confirmed his claim to compete in the traditional series as a replacement for HRT driver Luca Stolz at the season finale in Hockenheim in 2024.
Gounon, who is the first DTM driver to hold a license from Andorra, brings fresh blood to the Winward team. He replaces veteran Lucas Auer, who is leaving the German-Texan team after four years to join the Landgraf squad for their DTM comeback.
Thanks to his experience – Auer has been competing in the DTM since 2015 and was runner-up in 2022 – he is extremely valuable to Landgraf, especially since he has a rookie as his teammate in 16-year-old Tom Kalender.
The reigning ADAC GT Masters champion is rooted in the Landgraf team and is managed by “Mr. DTM” Bernd Schneider. The Westerwald native will be 17 years and 30 days old at the season opener in Oschersleben and, from today’s perspective, would thus set a record as the youngest DTM driver of all time.
DTM retirement for the last DTM race winner from AMG
The calendar has only been in the GT year once – and has also had junior status at Mercedes-AMG since 2025. His Landgraf team, on the other hand, is not breaking completely new ground with the DTM: Klaus Landgraf’s squad, which set a record by winning three consecutive ADAC GT Masters titles, was already on the grid in 2023 with Engel and Jusuf Owega, but did not receive any DTM support from AMG in 2024.
Mercedes-AMG driver Luca Stolz, who competed for Hubert Haupt’s team from 2022 to 2024 and also scored the last Mercedes-AMG victories in the DTM at the Sachsenring in 2023 and 2024, is no longer competing in the DTM. Overall, the 29-year-old triumphed three times.
This suggests that Stolz, who is known as a fast man, will be competing in the GT-World-Challenge Europe, the Intercontinental GT-Challenge and on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 2025.
Angel has tasted blood: “We want to bring the title to Affalterbach”
His previous HRT teammate Arjun Maini is no longer part of the Mercedes-AMG DTM line-up after four years. However, the Indian was only recently announced as a factory driver by Ford and can hope to drive the HRT team’s Mustang GT3 in the DTM in 2025.
“The goal is clear: we definitely want to become DTM champions and bring the title back to Affalterbach,” says 39-year-old Winward stalwart Engel, leaving no doubt that he wants to improve even further in 2025 after his strongest DTM season to date. The last drivers’ title so far was won by Mercedes-AMG in 2021 through Maximilian Götz and the HRT team. Both no longer belong to the DTM line-up of the brand with the star.
What the cars of the four Mercedes-AMG drivers will look like and which race numbers they will have for the DTM season will be announced at a later date.
