Aldeguer back on his motorcycle: Comeback at the Brazilian Grand Prix draws nearer

Fermin Aldeguer is back on his bike after his serious leg injury and is completing his first test rides – The Gresini rider wants to return in Brazil

Fermin Aldeguer has taken an important step towards his comeback in MotoGP. The Gresini rider completed an intensive day of training at the Circuito de Yepes in Spain on Wednesday, testing his physical condition on the bike for the first time since his accident.

Further sessions are already scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with the clear goal of being fit to race in time for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was seriously injured during a private test on January 8. The training session took place as part of a session organized by Marc Marquez at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia. During the day, Aldeguer crashed and suffered a fracture of the shaft of his left femur.

The rider had to undergo surgery the very next day. The rehabilitation period for such an injury is normally four to six months. Despite this prognosis, Aldeguer is currently working hard on his comeback. As previously reported, the rider from Murcia is on the provisional starting list for the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix in Goiania from March 20 to 22, 2026.

Positive feedback from the first test

His plan is to travel to Brazil next week, pass the medical examination, and be on the Ducati GP25 for the first free practice session on Friday (March 20). That would be just two months and twelve days after his crash.

The training in Yepes was therefore an important test in his accelerated rehabilitation. Aldeguer completed a full day of training there on two sporty road bikes: a Ducati Panigale V2 and a Yamaha – the exact model he had crashed on in early January.

The feedback from those around him was positive. “The training went very well, he had hardly any pain and the impressions were very, very positive. So everything points to him being able to compete in Brazil without any problems,” a confidant told Motorsport.com.

The next few days are already planned out. On Thursday, he will first have a day of filming with one of his personal sponsors. Aldeguer will also meet Pedro Acosta, who supports the same sponsor and will also be participating.

The next test will follow immediately afterwards: another day of training with the Ducati Panigale V2 is scheduled for Friday, this time at the Circuito de Cartagena. If the weather cooperates, Aldeguer wants to complete several more sessions there to rack up more miles and improve his feel for the bike.

Aldeguer missed preseason preparation

The Spaniard established himself as one of the most exciting young riders last season. He secured the Rookie of the Year title and celebrated his first victory in the premier class as a debutant at the Indonesian Grand Prix. This made him the second-youngest rider to win a MotoGP race. However, his injury meant he missed the entire 2026 preseason and the opening race in Thailand. As a result, the Gresini rider must quickly regain both his physical form and his confidence on the bike.

The goal is clear: to be competitive again as quickly as possible, in a season that has not started optimally for either Ducati as a whole or the Gresini team.
