Ahead of World Cup Qualifier in Riga: Mumbru Cuts Two Players

National team coach Alex Mumbru has cut the first two players from his roster. Mahir Agva and Joel Aminu will therefore not travel to Latvia for the game against Israel.

On Thursday morning, the team will head to Riga for the World Cup qualifying game against Israel. National team coach Alex Mumbru will take 13 players with him, which means two players had to be cut.

The players in question are center Mahir Agva (most recently with Merkezefendi) and Bonn’s Joel Aminu. Both had made their debuts on the DBB team under the Spanish coach in recent years, but have so far failed to make a strong impression. However, Mumbru is only allowed to call up twelve players for the game day roster, which means one will have to stay in the stands.

DBB Team: Three Potential Debutants

This also means that as many as three players could make their debuts in Riga. Michael Rataj (Alba Berlin), Simonas Lukosius (most recently with Rytas), and Sananda Fru (Marquette) are the three newcomers on the roster who have yet to play in an international match.

From the European Championship squad, only NBA pro Dennis Schröder and Leon Kratzer are on the roster. After four of six matchdays, Germany has already qualified early for the second round; however, all previous results will count in the upcoming round, which is why the games against Israel and, on Monday, against Cyprus in Bamberg are certainly significant.
