Instead of being in a Formula 1 cockpit, Daniel Ricciardo is on stage in Austin – his harmonica performance has thrilled fans on social media
Former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo caused a stir during the Grand Prix weekend in Austin. Together with American singer-songwriter Rob Baird, the Australian took to the stage and picked up his harmonica.
Ricciardo performed on Friday evening at the pop-up event organised by Ford and Enchante. There, he played the harmonica to a song he had written himself, which he had composed together with Baird during a road trip to the US Grand Prix.
A video of the performance posted by a fan on Instagram had already racked up more than 7,000 likes within a short space of time. The reactions were enthusiastic.
“That healed something inside me,” commented one fan. Another wrote: “I’m sure he was either Bob Dylan’s brother or a cowboy in a previous life, lol. We love you, Daniel.”
Another user joked: “Nobody’s interested in the race anymore. It’s great to see Daniel again, even if he’s not racing.” Another fan said: “As a musician and a fan of the Honey Badger, it would be a dream to play with Danny Ric.”
Ricciardo on a musical road trip to Austin
Ricciardo and Baird had travelled to Austin for the US Grand Prix weekend, having previously been in Arizona with their Ford Raptor Rally. The pair made the journey by car.
“Last night we kicked things off at the Ford Raptor Rally in Lake Havasu, and in a few days we’ll be making the long drive to Austin,” Ricciardo wrote in a message to his newsletter subscribers before setting off.
“And I really do mean the loooong drive. Desert, back roads, places to take a dip – the full works. I’m not going to lie: I can’t wait.”
The road trip was part of the advertising campaign for the new Enchante collection, called “The Long Road”. The new collection will be on sale at a pop-up event in the Distribution Hall in Austin. The supporting programme also includes food, drinks, temporary tattoos and racing simulators.
