Former Dortmund player Julian Brandt is impressed by the national team’s style under Jürgen Klopp. Brandt also speaks about his own ambitions.

Julian Brandt is impressed by the playing style of the German national football team under new manager Jürgen Klopp.

“As far as I’m concerned, the national team is heading in the right direction – I have to say that quite clearly. I believe it suits the national team and the players we have to attack going forward, to look to get shots on goal as quickly as possible after winning the ball, and to try to get into the box straight away,” said the attacking player from Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam on the “Spielmacher” podcast by 360Media.

Julian Brandt’s thoughts on the national team

Brandt played the most recent of his 48 international appearances (three goals) in November 2024. At Ajax, however, the 30-year-old has made a good start, scoring six goals in nine league matches.

“Regardless of my own situation – whether I’ll be part of the squad again at some point or not – I really, really, really, really enjoy following it. I believe we’re on the right track,” said Brandt. He doesn’t know where that will ultimately lead: “But I believe – and this is a recurring discussion – that the foundation of players is fundamentally there.”

Klopp had called up 44 players for his first four matches as national team manager. However, the squad will be significantly smaller for the Nations League matches in November in Serbia and against the Netherlands.
