French top-flight side AS Monaco has officially filed for insolvency and ceased all match operations. The club, which reached the EuroLeague final in 2025, is hoping for a restructuring and a return to competition at a later date.

AS Monaco Basket has confirmed in a statement addressed to its fans that the club has entered into insolvency proceedings and is suspending operations for the time being. “Today is a sad day. Despite all our efforts, AS Monaco Basket has entered insolvency proceedings,” reads the statement, which also expresses hope for a restructuring and the project’s eventual return.

This move brings to an end one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Since its promotion in 2015, Monaco has won three French league titles, four Leaders Cups, two cups and the 2021 EuroCup. In the EuroLeague, the club reached the play-offs in all five seasons since 2021, made it to the Final Four twice and lost the 2025 final to Fenerbahçe Istanbul.

The collapse had been on the cards for months: in the summer of 2026, the reigning French champions had their licence for the Betclic Elite national league revoked due to financial irregularities, despite interim financial injections from the Principality of Monaco. The French Federation also rejected an application to compete in the third-tier NM1 in September 2026, as Monaco was unable to provide reliable financial documentation.

The decline had already begun: instead of competing in the EuroLeague, Monaco was set to take part in the EuroCup on a significantly reduced budget, but has since been replaced there by Bosna Sarajevo. The club’s sporting future now lies with the amateur section “ASM”, whose men’s team plays in the fifth-tier NM3 league – with the club’s stated hope of one day returning to professional football.
