Jannik Sinner is planning his return to the tennis tour. In Beijing, the Italian could be back on court for an ATP match for the first time in two months.
Jannik Sinner is set to return to the ATP Tour. The world number one has not played in a tournament since winning the Wimbledon final in July, after a knee injury forced him to withdraw from the entire North American season, including the US Open. At the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, which Sinner has already won in 2023 and 2025, the defending champion is now set to return to action.
The past few weeks have been characterised by a controlled build-up. Following treatment in Turin, Sinner gradually increased the volume and intensity of his training sessions on the hard courts of the Monte Carlo Country Club.
Sinner undergoes stress test against Cobolli
The most recent stress test against Flavio Cobolli was particularly revealing: playing against a world-class opponent allowed the South Tyrolean to test his movement, changes of direction and stamina during long rallies under match conditions.
Cobolli subsequently travelled to London for the Laver Cup, whilst Sinner turned his attention to Beijing. Tuesday’s draw will determine his first opponent. Following the long break from competition, what matters most for Sinner initially will be not so much the result as how his right knee responds.
