France’s judo hero Teddy Riner has withdrawn from the World Championships in Baku (October 4–11). As the French federation announced on Saturday, the most successful judoka in history will not be fit in time after suffering a shoulder injury this summer.
The 37-year-old, 2.04 m tall, and 141 kg exceptional athlete had hoped to become world champion for the twelfth time in Baku, 20 years after his first world title. Next year, the five-time Olympic champion is aiming for his fourth individual gold medal in the heavyweight division at the Summer Games in Los Angeles.
