The wait for Carlos Alcaraz’s return continues.
Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz must remain sidelined due to his ongoing wrist injury and has withdrawn from the ATP Masters in Cincinnati (starting August 13). This was announced by the tournament organizers. The world No. 2 from Spain, who had been on the entry list, will therefore not be able to defend his title as hoped.
“We know that Carlos is doing everything he can to return to the tour as soon as possible. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future,” said tournament director Bob Moran.
This latest withdrawal fuels doubts about whether the 23-year-old will compete at the U.S. Open (starting August 30) in New York, the final Grand Slam tournament of the year. The Cincinnati Masters is traditionally considered the most important warm-up tournament for the U.S. Open.
Alcaraz is sidelined with a wrist injury he sustained in April during the first round of the tournament in Barcelona. As a result, the seven-time Grand Slam champion had already missed the Masters tournaments in Madrid and Rome, as well as the French Open and Wimbledon.
