Alexander Zverev is once again relying on Toni Nadal. The French Open champion had already worked with the former successful coach—and uncle of Rafael Nadal—last year.
Alexander Zverev has once again teamed up with Toni Nadal in preparation for the hard-court season. “He was a huge help to me,” said the French Open champion after completing his ten-day training camp at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca: “Toni spends a lot of time with us on the court, and Rafa stopped by a few times, too.”
Last year, following his disappointing first-round exit at Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympic champion had already trained with Rafael Nadal’s former successful coach and uncle. Afterward, there was speculation about a long-term collaboration between Zverev and Toni Nadal, but it never materialized.
In addition to the sessions with his uncle, Zverev also appreciated the exchange with 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. “It’s always very interesting to hear his opinion on my game. I’ve been playing against Rafa for ten years now, so it’s extremely valuable to hear his perspective on what I’m doing well and what I can still improve,” said the world No. 2: “I want to keep improving every day, so having him by my side was a huge help.”
North American tour is coming up
With his first major triumph in Paris and his first-ever appearance in the Wimbledon final, 2026 has been “a good year so far, but the season isn’t over yet,” said Zverev: “The North American tour is coming up soon, with two Masters 1000 tournaments and a very important Grand Slam tournament.” Training in Mallorca is intended to help Zverev “prepare for this challenge” so that he can play his “best tennis.”
Starting Sunday, Zverev will be the top favorite at the Masters in Montreal. Ahead of the US Open (starting August 30), the 29-year-old will also compete in the 1000-level event in Cincinnati.
