Andrew Robertson (32) is moving to another Premier League club. After leaving Liverpool following a nine-year stint, the Scot is joining league rivals Tottenham.
In early April, it was announced that Andrew Robertson would be leaving Liverpool FC this summer after a total of nine years. The Scot joined the Reds from Hull City in 2017 and established himself as a key player and fan favorite. The 32-year-old made 378 appearances for LFC, winning the Premier League twice and the Champions League once, among other titles.
Last season, Robertson lost his starting spot to Milos Kerkez; 13 of his 24 league appearances came as a substitute.
The left-footed player is now set to take on a more prominent role again at Spurs; on Friday, Tottenham announced the signing of the veteran, who is currently preparing for the World Cup with Scotland. “First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back, one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will strengthen our squad. Furthermore, his quality, character, and leadership have been clearly demonstrated throughout his career, during which he has regularly competed for and won major titles,” said sporting director Johan Lange, expressing his delight at the experienced new signing.
“Invaluable for the development of our squad”
“Andy’s professionalism and commitment will be invaluable for the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to help the club return to success,” Lange continued. Tottenham was far from successful last season; the Spurs narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.
Coach Roberto De Zerbi sees Robertson as a player “whom I have admired for many years, and he will bring outstanding technical skills, experience, leadership qualities, and the right attitude to our team. He has proven himself a winner at the highest level over a long period of time and is someone who can play an important role for us both on and off the field.”
