On the final matchday of the easyCredit BBL, the final decisions were made in the battle for the play-ins and playoff spots. While ALBA BERLIN secured second place and Trier managed to break into the top ten, Oldenburg and Chemnitz came away empty-handed.
Trier entered the final matchday in twelfth place but still managed to make the leap into the play-ins. This was made possible by defeats suffered by their direct competitors, allowing Trier to slip into the top ten and secure one of the last tickets to the postseason. RASTA Vechta also had reason to celebrate, jumping to seventh place with a 103-89 victory over the already-relegated MLP Academics Heidelberg. The Rostock Seawolves also sealed their spot in the play-ins with a decisive 103-71 win over the Veolia Towers Hamburg.
In the race for the top spots, Alba Berlin left nothing to chance. The Berliners prevailed 83-65 over Science City Jena, thereby defending second place behind regular-season champion FC Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Ratiopharm Ulm made a statement ahead of their quarterfinal against Bamberg with a dominant 103-64 win at the Skyliners.
For EWE Baskets Oldenburg, however, the final matchday ended on a sour note. A 67-77 loss in Munich saw the Lower Saxony team slip out of the top ten and miss the play-ins. Chemnitz also failed to make the postseason after suffering a decisive loss to relegated Braunschweig.
In the head-to-head battle for the top spots, Bamberg Baskets also prevailed 102-83 over Telekom Baskets Bonn. Since ALBA BERLIN won at the same time, the Upper Franconians remain in third place and will now face Ratiopharm Ulm in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, Bonn finished the regular season in fourth place and will face fifth-place Würzburg Baskets, who defeated MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg 75-58.
