Quick Struff exit in Madrid

The German veteran can’t find a way to beat an American and makes a quick exit from Madrid

Tennis pro Jan-Lennard Struff had no chance at the ATP Masters in Madrid. The 35-year-old veteran from Warstein was unable to find a recipe against the 33rd seeded American Alex Michelsen. Struff lost 2:6, 1:6 in around 57 minutes of play.

In a difficult season, Struff was delighted with his opening win in the Spanish capital against Frenchman Alexandre Müller – but he was on the losing end against Michelsen right from the start. Time and again, his opponent put the tour perennial favorite under enormous pressure.

Struff is actually particularly fond of the tournament in Madrid. In 2023, he achieved one of the greatest successes of his career by reaching the final of the top-class event, and a year later Struff even made it to the round of 16. He brought Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz to the brink of defeat twice.
