Jeremie Boga was physically assaulted by his own fans in Nice at the end of November. The Ivorian has now put this traumatic experience behind him because a new door has opened for him—at Juventus Turin.
There was huge celebration in Turin last Sunday when Juve finally equalized 2-2 against Lazio in the sixth minute of stoppage time with a header from Pierre Kalulu. It was a goal that, for once, did not focus on the scorer, but on the provider.
Boga was out for a few days after the attack
Jeremie Boga joined Juventus on loan from Nice just two weeks ago. And there was a good reason for the transfer: at the end of November 2025, the 29-year-old was physically attacked by Nice fans during a fan march after a defeat against Lorient (1-3). He filed a complaint against persons unknown and was sidelined for a few days. Now, around two and a half months later, he has finally gotten over this incident in sporting terms.
It had really affected him, as he admitted in an interview with DAZN: “After the incident with the fans in Nice, I lost a few pounds because I wasn’t eating much. My family was scared, and it was a terrible time that I want to forget.“
That’s why the move back to Italy, where the Ivorian had already played for Sassuolo and Atalanta between 2018 and 2023, was a blessing: ”Juventus saved me.” It was very emotional for him, and he only really realized it when the contract was actually signed: “Every morning I thank heaven that I’m here after everything that happened in Nice.”
With the courage of a street footballer
Now he wants to show the Juve fans what he can do. Boga is at home in attacking midfield and on the wing. He describes his playing style as that of a street footballer: “It comes from Marseille, where I grew up. That’s where I learned everything in my neighborhood with my friends. My dribbling comes from there, from the desire to always outplay and provoke my opponent.” Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But back then on the streets of Marseille, he learned the courage to dribble.
Boga now wants to help Juventus secure a Champions League spot in the league with his carefree style of play. And in the premier class, he wants to survive the play-offs against Galatasaray Istanbul with the Old Lady. The first real cracker is already on the agenda for the new signing on Saturday (8:45 p.m.): Juve will be guests at league leaders Inter for the top match.
