“Who are these people?!” Stanway criticizes in-game graphics in FC 26

Controversy is a recurring theme at EA SPORTS FC. It’s not just the ratings that are causing debate, but also the in-game graphics – for example, in the case of three female players from FC Bayern Munich.
Professional athletes at EA SPORTS don’t just pay attention to ratings—their appearance in the game is also important. This was recently demonstrated by an example involving the women of FC Bayern Munich. Shortly before the release, the developer posted an in-game image on Instagram for promotional purposes. It showed Klara Bühl, Lea Schüller, and Georgia Stanway, all three wearing Bayern jerseys on the promenade at the Allianz Arena. However, EA SPORTS did not capture the players very well—at least in Stanway’s opinion.
The 26-year-old commented on the post with “Who are these people?!” and added a melting emoji. The British-born player is not wrong: the faces do look very angular. The community also seems to share this assessment and jumped in to support Stanway in the comments. “2025 and these are the faces…,”
wrote ‘derjulian84’, for example. ‘obi-story5.6’ took a similar line: “Compared to recent years, the facial rendering is really poor.”

At least EA SPORTS FC 26 scored points with the men of the record champions. In our graphics comparison, the current title comes out ahead of last year’s.

EA SPORTS already had Katterbach in despair

It’s nothing new that EA SPORTS sometimes provokes involuntary guesswork with the appearance of certain professionals. In FC 25, Noah Katterbach was allowed to guess the digital appearances of his HSV colleagues – and found it difficult. “This is abnormally difficult,” he said, but at least he was able to recognize Davie Selke, Ransford Königsdörffer, and Immanuel Pherai. Although ‘recognize’ is relative: Königsdörffer is depicted as “bottomless,” and Pherai’s FC 25 image “doesn’t really look like Manu.”

It got even trickier with Jonas Meffert’s avatar, which was kept generic in the game. Katterbach didn’t want to jump to conclusions: “I don’t want to say anything wrong,” he said, before tentatively offering a guess: “They wanted to try to make Dennis Hadzikadunic?” In the end, the virtual captain’s armband probably helped with the guessing game. With a smile, Katterbach made up his mind: “‘Meffo’ – that’s bottomless.”
