Bayern’s secret Bundesliga record – and Kompany’s betting tip

Bayern are brimming with confidence ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Eintracht Frankfurt. And the chance to make history is huge.

In keeping with the last days of Oktoberfest, the sun has found its way back to Munich, where it has been shining on FC Bayern for weeks anyway. Nine wins from nine competitive games is an impressive record; hardly anyone in Europe has managed ten out of ten. Real Madrid, for example, managed eleven out of eleven in 1968.

“For me, it’s just one game,” says Vincent Kompany, with his usual restraint, ahead of Saturday’s top match at Eintracht Frankfurt. “The most important thing is that we’re there in March to win the prizes.” In other words, the titles. “And it’s important that we maintain momentum; that we deliver performances that can help us. That’s the priority.”

The coach knows all too well that although the start has been perfect and the team is playing extremely attractive soccer, this bore little fruit in Frankfurt last year.
At Eintracht, Bayern played one of their best games of the season in October 2024, also on matchday 6, but despite 74 percent possession and 9:4 chances, they only took one point back to Munich.
This time, the record champions are not traveling to Frankfurt after a 0-1 defeat in Birmingham and have not already dropped unnecessary points in the league. At the moment, everything is clicking into place, and the team’s cohesion and interplay are looking better than in the recent past. “I don’t know if what we are as a squad is so extraordinary,” says Kompany about the team spirit. “If you listen too much to what people outside the club are saying, we’re either great or we’re useless. We always have to feel that we’re there for each other.” Whether that means praise or criticism. “But always with the feeling that we’re trying to do this together, for each other.”

Sports director Max Eberl is also pleased with “the path we have taken. As the person in charge, you try to bring together people who can bring success.”

Although things are going extremely well at the moment, Bayern are naturally wary of the unpredictable Frankfurt team, whose games this season have seen an average of 5.88 goals scored. “They are very strong offensively,” says Kompany, adding with a smile: “We also score a lot of goals. I don’t know who would bet on a 0-0 draw tomorrow. For now, we plan to play offensively, as we have in recent weeks, and be stable defensively. Hopefully, we can just get three points again.”

Thanks to their successful start, Bayern have quietly set a new Bundesliga record: they have scored at least three goals in each of their last six away games across two seasons, which is a new record. They will be looking to extend that record on Saturday.
